Wow, what a crazy couple of weeks! We worked on the last few things related to selling the house but those pesky lingering things are always the hardest. We have been living in the camper for almost a month while parked in the driveway but we are going to be losing our safety net of a home. Which for some reason was a little scary, I guess because its all new to us. Being homeless.
We hooked up and moved Boo to Brazos Bend State Park for a few days. While at the park we met the park host Terri and her husband Harold they have the same rig as we do. Terri described a problem they had just had with their awning, it had collapsed due to heavy rain. Not a lot of wind but very heavy rain. Note to self, do not leave awning out in the rain. I did go over the next morning and talked to Harold to offered help but he had secured it and was going to wait for insurance to guide them.
We pulled out on Friday morning and headed for the closing on the Lake Jackson house. That went smooth and we headed back to Brazos Bend to get Boo and then on to Quintana Beach County Park below Freeport, TX. The park sits on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico with the Intercoastal Waterway at it’s back. It is separated from Surfside Beach by the old Brazos River now ship channel. We set the camper up and stayed the night before heading to Baton Rouge. We rolled into Baton Rouge in the rain and picked up Dawson who is going to join us back at the beach for a week before we head west.
We made it back to the camper just in time to get dressed and join our old neighbors for supper at La Casona, a top notch Mexican restaurant in Lake Jackson. Sure will miss those Margaritas and the company. We had the best neighbors, sure will miss you guys.
We spent the week at the beach with Dawson, we sailed the boat once, got stuck twice and back home safely. Took Dawson kayaking, sailing, seashell hunting, fishing, trip to Moody gardens and lots of cooking in the camper. He loves the camper especially the transformer bed and we are so looking forward to sharing lots of great trips with him. We will miss that sweet boy for sure.
Brought Dawson back to BR and finally ready to make our way west away from Lake Jackson. We said goodbye to everyone and hooked up the camper, heading to Buda Texas for two days to have a little service on the camper. Then we will make our way over to the Davis Mountains. The Davis Mountain are the darkest place in the continental US, there is an observatory and great for night time photography. The city has restrictions on lights and all the street lights shine downward, making it darker than every other city.
Looking forward to the next week of not moving around so much and maybe fitting in some fishing, so ‘Let the Good Times Roll!’
PS: Summary of lessons learned- 1) Grandbaby means lego’s everywhere 😊, 2) mosquitoes don’t hold a stick to Cutter yard spray even on the Gulf coast 3) Letting go of your stuff is harder than you think but at the end of the day its just stuff. Travel is the only thing you can buy that will make you richer!!!
