Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Welcome to this year’s installment of the dreaded Christmas Letter…
RV live is about flexibility and our plans certainly changed as the year progressed. Our goal was to find a home in the Carolinas and tour the East Coast… we did neither!
Our year started out like most since we have been RVing with the exception of going East rather than West. After the Holiday season, we headed across the Gulf Coast, down into Florida. We knew Florida is an RV mecca in the winter and availability would be problematic so we planned to only go as far as Tampa/St Pete this year, saving Southern Florida for another year. Availability was tight but Elks lodges made it possible. As members, most lodges allow overnight parking for a small donation.
Since most lodges limit stays length, we were able to utilize this to our advantage. We found most snowbirds want to park and live in one spot, we wanted to see the state. One of our favorite stops was St. Augustine on the Atlantic coast. After spending several months in the Sunshine State, we headed North.
We spent several months in the Ashville / Hendersonville area of North Carolina. While we liked the area it didn’t fit our forever home image, so we started looking in the Greenville South Carolina area. It was a much better candidate for our needs, and more affordable. We left the search due to some family issues that required our attention back in Louisiana and while there we found a perfect house! It is in an older and very walkable area of Baton Rouge.
Our new home is a bit of a project. It is a pre-WW2 construction where we are more curator than an owner. We are in the design phase, planning our perfect home. We were lucky to have plenty of space and understanding neighbors, which allowed us to move our RV onsite and live in it while we are in the construction phase.
Our family grew this year with the birth of our second grandson! He was born in late September in Oregon so we now have one grandson on the west coast and one on the gulf coast. Good thing we like to travel!
We are looking forward to making new friends and reconnecting with old ones and being closer to family. And many dog park trips with our sweet Baisie.
